Top winners to be honored on international stage at eighth Clean Energy Ministerial in 2017

Announced today, the 2017 CEM Energy Management Leadership Awards will raise global awareness of the benefits of energy management and accelerate uptake of these systems to support corporate, national, and global climate goals. Organizations that have an ISO 50001-certified energy management system may compete for these prestigious awards. The submission deadline is 24 January 2017.

National Programs to Build Capacity for Effective ISO 50001 Implementation in North America

This paper will present activities across North America related to effective implementation of ISO 50001. The range of program activities will be described, with a special focus on 1) personnel credentialing programs, and 2) developing a methodology to predict energy savings and GHG reductions resulting from future ISO 50001 implementation. Analysis of data will be provided, supporting the value of competency-based personnel certification in achieving robust implementation outcomes. Additionally, a methodology for predicting ISO 50001 GHG impacts, developed by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and under review by the ISO 50001 Global Research Network, will be presented.

Detroit Diesel Verifies $37 Million in Energy Savings with SEP

Daimler’s Detroit Diesel Corporation facility earned Platinum certification in the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Superior Energy Performance® (SEP™) program. The facility implemented a robust energy management system in compliance with ISO 50001 and used SEP to quantify its energy performance improvement. Through SEP, the facility demonstrated a 32.5% energy performance improvement and $37 million in energy cost savings over 10 years. These impressive energy and cost savings garnered attention and support from management, all the way up to Detroit Diesel’s parent company, Daimler, in Germany. The video describes how the automotive manufacturer manages energy and uses SEP to track progress, verify savings, and build confidence for future investments in resource efficiency measures that can stimulate growth and create jobs.

Governments, companies, and international partners collaborate to accelerate implementation of ISO 50001

An international assembly of high-level clean energy leaders attending the 7th Clean Energy Ministerial launched the Energy Management Campaign, a new, high-level international effort to promote ISO 50001, the global energy management system standard. The Energy Management Campaign is a call to action—urging governments, business, industry, and other key partners to use the ISO 50001 standard as a transparent mechanism to demonstrate progress towards climate and energy goals. The Campaign aims to achieve 50,001 global certifications to ISO 50001 by 2020.

Cummins, LG Chem, and New Gold win inaugural Awards of Excellence in Energy Management

Thirty-five businesses in 20 countries have been selected for global recognition as part of the inaugural Energy Management Leadership Awards program sponsored by the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM). On June 2, 2016, three companies will receive top honors, the Award of Excellence in Energy Management, at the annual CEM meeting in San Francisco, California: Cummins Inc. (USA), LG Chem Ltd. (Republic of Korea), and New Gold Inc. (Canada). Another 32 companies will receive Energy Management Insight Awards for helping to build global insight on the benefits of energy management systems in industrial and commercial facilities.

This case study describes how TNT Chile's 2015 consumption rate of their trucks was 3.15 Km/L (13.47 liters of diesel for each 100 miles), compared with their 2013 performance of 2.94 Km/L (14.44 liters of diesel for each 100 miles). This is a 7.14% reduction against their baseline year.

This case study describes how Vedanta Limited, Smelter has taken many initiatives to save energy compared to the baseline year (2012-13) after an energy management system (EnMS) was implemented. In the year 2014-15, around 39 energy saving projects were implemented.
