LG Chem Yeosu Global Energy Management Implementation Case Study

Yeosu SM Plant of LG Chem, producing over 500,000 tons of Styrene Monomer (SM) annually, achieved 7.48% energy savings during 2014-2015

This case study describes how the Yeosu plant introduced an EnMS to forecast future energy consumption and GHG emissions, and therefore manage the related risks. They achieved total energy savings of 302,405 GJ (7.48%) and a GHG emissions reduction of 78,525 tCO2, both achieved during the monitoring period (2014-2015) against the baseline period (2013).

This case study describes how LG Chem Ulsan's energy saving performance in 2015 was 5.29% (271 Mil KRW) compared to the 2014 level. This was achieved through studying and implementing various energy saving activities including raising productivity and recovering condensed water.

This case study describes how LG Chem Gimcheon achieved tremendous energy savings through the implementation of an energy management system to efficiently manage and analyze energy consumption. Gimcheon saw a total energy savings of 27,068 GJ in 2015.

This November, the International Standards Organization (ISO) published ISO 50047 – Determination of Energy Savings in Organizations, which builds on ISO 50001, the family of international energy management standards, by providing organizations with the additional guidance needed to calculate and accept with confidence the effect that implemented energy performance actions have had on facility-wide energy efficiency.
