New Commitments Highlight Progress of Energy Management Campaign at Eighth Clean Energy Ministerial

Governments, companies, and international partners step up their efforts to accelerate implementation of ISO 50001

Partners shared their newest commitments to the Energy Management Campaign with an international assembly of high-level clean energy leaders attending the 8th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8), which took place June 6–8 in Beijing, China. One of the highlights of the three-day event, the Campaign aims, by 2020, to achieve 50,001 global certifications to ISO 50001, the global energy management system standard. During related CEM8 events, governments, global business leaders, and other key partners outlined concrete actions they will take to promote ISO 50001 and make progress towards climate and energy goals.

ACC is the first cement plant in Egypt certified with ISO 50001

This case study describes how the adoption of an EnMS at ACC has proven to have several direct and indirect benefits. The direct benefits can be summarized in the achieved energy savings and associated GHG reduction: total energy performance improvement by 72,417 MWh representing 1.8% from the baseline (1.5% heat consumption reduction, 4.4% power consumption reduction) and corresponding GHG reduction 127,147 tCO2e (15% from baseline).

First ISO 50001 certified industrial facility in North America

This case study describes how since implementing ISO 50001 in 2011, the Bowmanville plant has re-certified in both CEE (Certification in Energy Excellence – Gold Award ) in 2013 and ISO 50001 in 2014. In 2012, the first full year after ISO 50001 certification, the Bowmanville plant was able to produce 117,840 equivalent tons more product than 2011 while reducing energy consumption by 0.0063 MWH/equivalent ton, resulting in a total annual energy savings of 34,286 GJ and a total energy cost savings of $2,071,309 USD.
