Report on Energy and Gender Issues in ECOWAS Member States Launched at COP21

Report developed in partnership with the Clean Energy Solutions Center lays the groundwork for policy to mainstream gender in energy access

The Clean Energy Solutions Center, an initiative of the Clean Energy Ministerial, has announced the release of a new report, Situation Analysis of Energy and Gender Issues: Issues in ECOWAS Member States. The report, supported through the Clean Energy Solutions Center Ask an Expert service and developed in collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, provides insights on the role of women in energy access and decision-making in the region and laid the groundwork for the development of the ECOWAS Policy for Gender Mainstreaming in Energy Access. The report was announced at the 21st United Nations climate conference (COP21) in Paris, France, during the ECOWAS side event.

“Policies to Spur Energy Access” Spotlights Public–Private Models for Providing Electricity Access

The Clean Energy Ministerial’s Clean Energy Solutions Center has published Policies to Spur Energy Access, a comprehensive report produced jointly with the International Institute for Environment and Development. The report reveals policy options for developing countries to engage the private sector in creating market solutions to energy access and includes in-depth case studies of public–private programs for financing energy access in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Mali, Mexico, and Nepal.

Clean Energy Ministerial and World Bank to Help Countries Scale Up, Integrate Renewable Energy in Grids

The Clean Energy Ministerial and the World Bank’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program will work together to deliver targeted technical assistance to help developing and middle-income countries integrate large shares of wind and solar energy into their electricity grids. Together, the initiatives will deliver the most advanced knowledge—from technical integration of variable renewable energy (VRE) and smart grids to harmonized policy and regulatory frameworks—that will draw from the experiences of vanguard countries already managing high percentages of wind and solar penetration.

Solutions Center and Partners Launch Free E-Learning Course on Renewable Energy

The Clean Energy Solutions Center, in partnership with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Energy Working Group and Leonardo Energy, has developed a no-cost e-learning course to introduce a range of renewable energy topics. The course has global relevance and is available to anyone via the Leonardo Energy website.
