APEC Energy Working Group Endorses Global Lighting Challenge

The Asia–Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Working Group (EWG) recently endorsed the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Global Lighting Challenge (GLC), a campaign to accelerate the transition to highly energy-efficient lighting.

Global Awards Program to Recognize Leadership in Energy Management

CEM Energy Management Leadership Awards to honor organizations using ISO 50001-certified energy management systems

The inaugural Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Energy Management Leadership Awards will recognize organizations using an ISO 50001-certified energy management system to save energy and reduce costs. To enter the competition, an organization must submit a copy of its ISO 50001 certificate and a structured case study, which will be evaluated by an independent panel of international experts. Three organizations will receive the prestigious CEM Award of Excellence for Energy Management and will be recognized at an awards ceremony during the Seventh Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM7) meeting in San Francisco on June 2, 2016.

EMWG Works with Commission for Environmental Cooperation to Launch Novel Trilateral Energy Efficiency Initiative

Companies across North America are invited to apply for the Energy Management Pilot Program

The Commission for Environmental Cooperation, with the support of the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Energy Management Working Group (EMWG), is spearheading an innovative pilot program to help North American companies reduce their energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The North American Energy Management Pilot Program includes energy management training and coaching to implement the ISO 50001 standard. Companies can find more information on the CEC Energy Program webpage. The application deadline is 8 January 2016.

The EV City Casebook Wins a Low Carbon Champion Award

The EV City Casebook: 50 Big Ideas is one of the Low Carbon Champions for 2014–2015, as announced by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP). The Casebook was a cooperative effort of the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Electric Vehicles Initiative (EVI), the International Energy Agency’s Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Implementing Agreement, and future city think tank Urban Foresight and was recognized as the Low Carbon Publication or Report of the Year.

New Energy Management Case Studies Showcase Savings for U.S., Canadian Facilities

Case studies feature ISO 50001 use and resulting energy cost savings with energy management

Two case studies published by the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Energy Management Working Group (EMWG) highlight new energy management systems deployed by two North American industrial plants. These latest entries in the growing EMWG series explain how a Canadian plant, Chrysler Group LLC, and a U.S. plant, Cummins, Inc., deployed ISO 50001-compliant systems to manage energy more efficiently while boosting competitiveness.

Paper Highlights EMWG Efforts to Build Workforce Capacity for ISO 50001 Certification Audits

Paper presented at ACEEE 2015 Summer Study

A new paper prepared by the Energy Management Working Group (EMWG) describes the EMWG’s efforts to build workforce capacity for ISO 50001 certification audits through a new certification program for ISO 50001 Lead Auditors. The program will help fill a gap in existing credentialing and training for ISO 50001 certification auditors.

The Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) initiative honored the winners of its Global Efficiency Medal competition for super-efficient household LED light bulbs at an awards ceremony at the United Nations Environment Programme in Paris, France. Winning products in the international competition were more than 80% more efficient than comparable incandescent light bulbs.

The Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and Efficient District Heating and Cooling (DHC) Working Group hosted a Sustainable Urban Energy Systems Workshop on 25 February 2015 in cooperation with the International Energy Agency (IEA). The workshop explored how CHP and DHC can create a more sustainable, flexible, and integrated energy system.
