2015–16 Global LEAP Award Winners Announced at CEM7

Awards recognize the world’s best off-grid televisions and fans, which are critical to global energy access efforts

The Clean Energy Ministerial has announced the Winners in the 2015–16 Global LEAP Awards, an international competition that identifies and promotes the world’s best, most energy-efficient off-grid appliances. This round of the Global LEAP Awards features competitions for televisions and fans that are designed for use with off-grid solar energy systems.

Energy ministers and other high-level delegates from over 20 countries and the European Commission will gather in San Francisco, California, on June 1–2 for the seventh Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM7) and inaugural Mission Innovation (MI Ministerial). Included in the two-day agenda will be a series of major announcements, report launches, and commitments from business and government leaders from around the world.

U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced that the United States will host the seventh Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM7) in San Francisco, California, June 1–2, 2016. The announcement was made at an event in Paris during the COP21 UN Climate Negotiations. The annual meeting of energy ministers and other high-level delegates from the 23 CEM member countries and the European Commission will provide an opportunity for the major economies to collaborate on solutions that advance clean energy globally and demonstrate tangible follow-up actions to COP21.

World Energy Leaders at Sixth Clean Energy Ministerial Announce Ambitious Efforts to Advance Clean Energy Worldwide

Energy Ministers Announce “CEM 2.0,” New Global Initiatives, the United States as the Next CEM Host, and China Intends to Host CEM8 Host

At the sixth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM6), Mexico Secretary of Energy Pedro Joaquín Coldwell, U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, China Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang and other world energy leaders announced ambitious actions to accelerate the global transition to clean energy. Ministers agreed to launch an enhanced, second phase of work under CEM, referred to as “CEM 2.0.” Ministers also launched three critical efforts to drive action in the clean energy space: a CEM Global Lighting Challenge, CEM Power System Challenge, and expanded Clean Energy Solutions Center with Finance Portal. To conclude CEM6, President Barack Obama announced in a video message that the United States will host CEM7 in 2016, which was followed by the announcement by China's Minister Wan Gang that China intends to host CEM8 in 2017.

Second annual ISGAN Award, inaugural GSGF Award celebrate excellence in smart grids for renewable energy integration

At the sixth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM6), the International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) and the Global Smart Grid Federation (GSGF) announced the winners of the second-annual ISGAN Award of Excellence and the first-ever GSGF Best Smartgrid Project Award. The winning projects receiving these prestigious awards serve as global exemplars of the value that smarter, cleaner electric grids can offer.
