Global Energy Management Awards Program Now Accepting Entries

Top winners to be honored at ninth Clean Energy Ministerial in 2018

The Energy Management Leadership Awards is now accepting entries for 2018. Any organization with an ISO 50001-certified energy management system is invited to participate in this prestigious awards program from the Clean Energy Ministerial’s (CEM’s) Energy Management Working Group (EMWG). A Ministerial-level forum working to accelerate the global clean energy transition, the CEM holds annual awards to showcase leadership and achievements that support organizational, national, and global climate goals.

Governments, companies, and international partners step up their efforts to accelerate implementation of ISO 50001

Partners shared their newest commitments to the Energy Management Campaign with an international assembly of high-level clean energy leaders attending the 8th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8), which took place June 6–8 in Beijing, China. One of the highlights of the three-day event, the Campaign aims, by 2020, to achieve 50,001 global certifications to ISO 50001, the global energy management system standard. During related CEM8 events, governments, global business leaders, and other key partners outlined concrete actions they will take to promote ISO 50001 and make progress towards climate and energy goals.

The Clean Energy Ministerial Advances a Key Tool for Climate Action

The Clean Energy Ministerial’s Energy Management Working Group and its work to raise the visibility of ISO 50001 as a key tool for climate action were featured at the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP22), held November 7–18 in Marrakech, Morocco. Established in 2011, ISO 50001 transforms the way organizations manage energy, offering companies a comprehensive approach to continually improve energy performance, sustainability, and the bottom line.

Top winners to be honored on international stage at eighth Clean Energy Ministerial in 2017

Announced today, the 2017 CEM Energy Management Leadership Awards will raise global awareness of the benefits of energy management and accelerate uptake of these systems to support corporate, national, and global climate goals. Organizations that have an ISO 50001-certified energy management system may compete for these prestigious awards. The submission deadline is 24 January 2017.

Governments, companies, and international partners collaborate to accelerate implementation of ISO 50001

An international assembly of high-level clean energy leaders attending the 7th Clean Energy Ministerial launched the Energy Management Campaign, a new, high-level international effort to promote ISO 50001, the global energy management system standard. The Energy Management Campaign is a call to action—urging governments, business, industry, and other key partners to use the ISO 50001 standard as a transparent mechanism to demonstrate progress towards climate and energy goals. The Campaign aims to achieve 50,001 global certifications to ISO 50001 by 2020.

Global Awards Program Recognizes Companies for Leadership in Energy Management

Cummins, LG Chem, and New Gold win inaugural Awards of Excellence in Energy Management

Thirty-five businesses in 20 countries have been selected for global recognition as part of the inaugural Energy Management Leadership Awards program sponsored by the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM). On June 2, 2016, three companies will receive top honors, the Award of Excellence in Energy Management, at the annual CEM meeting in San Francisco, California: Cummins Inc. (USA), LG Chem Ltd. (Republic of Korea), and New Gold Inc. (Canada). Another 32 companies will receive Energy Management Insight Awards for helping to build global insight on the benefits of energy management systems in industrial and commercial facilities.

Global Awards Program to Recognize Leadership in Energy Management

CEM Energy Management Leadership Awards to honor organizations using ISO 50001-certified energy management systems

The inaugural Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Energy Management Leadership Awards will recognize organizations using an ISO 50001-certified energy management system to save energy and reduce costs. To enter the competition, an organization must submit a copy of its ISO 50001 certificate and a structured case study, which will be evaluated by an independent panel of international experts. Three organizations will receive the prestigious CEM Award of Excellence for Energy Management and will be recognized at an awards ceremony during the Seventh Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM7) meeting in San Francisco on June 2, 2016.

EMWG Works with Commission for Environmental Cooperation to Launch Novel Trilateral Energy Efficiency Initiative

Companies across North America are invited to apply for the Energy Management Pilot Program

The Commission for Environmental Cooperation, with the support of the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Energy Management Working Group (EMWG), is spearheading an innovative pilot program to help North American companies reduce their energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The North American Energy Management Pilot Program includes energy management training and coaching to implement the ISO 50001 standard. Companies can find more information on the CEC Energy Program webpage. The application deadline is 8 January 2016.

New global initiative aims to advance women’s leadership in clean energy

Sweden and Canada announced they were setting up a new global Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP) under the International Energy Agency (IEA) to promote leadership roles for women in clean energy. The establishment of the Clean Energy Education and Empowerment TCP (C3E TCP) was announced during the 8th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8) meeting in Beijing. It builds on the successful C3E initiative created by member governments of the CEM in 2010.

International Women’s Day, observed around the world on 8 March 2017, celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political empowerment and achievement of women. Among many other issues, International Women’s Day provides an opportunity to recognize cutting-edge work addressing women’s energy poverty. For example, in West Africa, ensuring universal energy access by 2030 is proving to be more than just a political proclamation; with support from the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Clean Energy Solutions Center and its partners, West African countries are fast-tracking their energy access goals by putting women’s interests at the center of policy solutions.

Swedish Energy Network Announces Power Woman of the Year

On 25 October, the Swedish female network Kraftkvinnorna, or “Power Women,” hosted its first “Power Woman of the Year” award ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden. Power Women, created in the spring of 2015, works to promote and support female advancement and attract women to the Swedish energy sector. The three Swedish C3E Ambassadors—Elisabet Falemo, Elin Löfblad, and Annika Viklund—are also members of Power Women.
