Malaysia Establishes Feed-in Tariffs to Accelerate Renewable Energy Deployment

Clean Energy Solutions Center facilitates collaboration to develop and implement supportive policies

Malaysia has taken steps to further clean energy deployment by mandating adoption of a renewable energy feed-in tariff (FiT) mechanism under the country’s 2011 Renewable Energy Act. The Malaysian Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) and the Clean Energy Regulators Initiative (CERI) are working together to enable FiT implementation and renewable energy development, with CERI supporting SEDA’s efforts to review and improve FiTs for solar photovoltaic (PV), bioenergy, small hydropower, and geothermal energy resources and technologies. The Clean Energy Ministerial’s (CEM’s) Clean Energy Solutions Center Ask an Expect service facilitated the SEDA-CERI partnership.

Global LEAP, ClimateWorks, and CLASP Spearhead Groundbreaking Energy Access Program

Program to help organize and drive growth of off-grid renewable energy and appliance market

The Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership (Global LEAP) is partnering with ClimateWorks and CLASP to launch an innovative program that will support efforts to extend renewable energy to millions of people throughout the developing world who currently live without access to electricity. The program will create an easily accessible online clearinghouse of off-grid appliances to increase market knowledge and foster a more competitive global off-grid appliance market.

The course is available to anyone via the Leonardo Energy website. The course comprises four modules that cover renewable energy technologies, including power-generation technologies and integrating renewable energy into the power grid, economic regulation of electric utilities, policy and regulatory frameworks and conditions for success, and energy access through renewable energy.
