New global initiative aims to advance women’s leadership in clean energy

Sweden and Canada announced they were setting up a new global Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP) under the International Energy Agency (IEA) to promote leadership roles for women in clean energy. The establishment of the Clean Energy Education and Empowerment TCP (C3E TCP) was announced during the 8th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM8) meeting in Beijing. It builds on the successful C3E initiative created by member governments of the CEM in 2010.

Approaching Energy Access Differently

How West Africa Is Putting Women’s Interests on the Table

International Women’s Day, observed around the world on 8 March 2017, celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political empowerment and achievement of women. Among many other issues, International Women’s Day provides an opportunity to recognize cutting-edge work addressing women’s energy poverty. For example, in West Africa, ensuring universal energy access by 2030 is proving to be more than just a political proclamation; with support from the Clean Energy Ministerial’s Clean Energy Solutions Center and its partners, West African countries are fast-tracking their energy access goals by putting women’s interests at the center of policy solutions.

International C3E Ambassador Dr. Malak Al-Nory organized and moderated a panel on women in energy at the 6th Saudi Arabia Smart Grid and Sustainable Energy Conference in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The panel brought together a number of women pioneers in the energy industry to inspire a new generation of women to participate in the clean energy field.

Swedish Energy Network Announces Power Woman of the Year

On 25 October, the Swedish female network Kraftkvinnorna, or “Power Women,” hosted its first “Power Woman of the Year” award ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden. Power Women, created in the spring of 2015, works to promote and support female advancement and attract women to the Swedish energy sector. The three Swedish C3E Ambassadors—Elisabet Falemo, Elin Löfblad, and Annika Viklund—are also members of Power Women.

10 Ways the Clean Energy Ministerial Is Helping Drive the World’s Clean Energy Revolution

If we’re going to solve the challenge of climate change, we need to make a rapid shift to clean energy. That’s why the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) was launched in 2010.
