Through the implementation of a structured EnMS and a culture of continuous improvement, GSK Cork has achieved significant energy, CO2 and cost savings

This case study describes how since EN 16001 certification was achieved in 2011, GSK Cork has achieved an 8.1 % reduction in annual energy consumption and a cumulative reduction in CO2 emissions of 20,309 metric tons and cost savings of $4.6 million. This success was built on earlier energy savings achieved from 2009 through the sites Operational Excellence program. ISO 50001 certification was achieved in 2012.

Guia’s WWTP 0% - 100% energy self-sufficient

This case study describes how the "Guia’s WWTP 0% - 100% Energy Self-Sufficient” project started in February of 2016, leading to the public announcement that the WWTP is 100% self-sufficient in energy consumption in January of 2017. Due to a cogeneration system based on the use of the calorific value of biogas produced by the anaerobic sludge digestion to produce electric energy, as well as to the implementation of other measures, this WWTP changed from an intensive external energy consumer to an energy self-sufficient one.

Yeosu SM Plant of LG Chem, producing over 500,000 tons of Styrene Monomer (SM) annually, achieved 7.48% energy savings during 2014-2015

This case study describes how the Yeosu plant introduced an EnMS to forecast future energy consumption and GHG emissions, and therefore manage the related risks. They achieved total energy savings of 302,405 GJ (7.48%) and a GHG emissions reduction of 78,525 tCO2, both achieved during the monitoring period (2014-2015) against the baseline period (2013).
