Global Wind Atlas provides accurate wind resource data down to the kilometre, boosting support for global wind energy development

The most detailed data and statistics on global wind energy potential are now available online, thanks to a free resource launched today by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Technical University of Denmark. The Global Wind Atlas provides wind resource data at one-kilometre resolution. Prior to this release, global wind data was only publically available at 10-kilometre resolution or poorer, which resulted in underestimations, increased risk and increased costs for wind energy planners.

Under the theme of “Act Together, Think Creative,” CEM5 focused on accelerating the transition to a global clean energy economy

On 12–13 May, energy leaders from the world’s largest economies and others gathered in Seoul for the fifth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM5) to strategize next steps in their efforts to accelerate the deployment of clean and efficient energy. Energy ministers and other high-level delegates highlighted progress made through the Ministerial’s collaborative initiatives and announced new and expanded actions that will enhance clean energy supply, improve energy efficiency, and expand clean energy access around the world.
