The Brazilian government will provide access to its regional centers of excellence in bioenergy research and development (R&D) to Clean Energy Ministerial governments that join the Bioenergy Working Group. The group has started to define the methodology behind its planned global bioenergy atlas, which will evaluate suitable areas for biofuels production and the potential use of biomass for electricity generation.
To start defining the methodology for the global bioenergy atlas, the Bioenergy Working Group consolidated models for identifying and evaluating areas suitable for producing feedstock (known as "agro-ecological zoning"). On 15–16 September 2010, the Brazilian government presented these zoning methodologies at the International Energy Agency Roadmap Workshop "Sustainable Feedstock Supply for Bioenergy and Biofuels."
The Brazilian government also identified regional centers of excellence in bioenergy R&D that address the full chain of bioenergy production and use, with a special emphasis on improving efficiency and productivity. The Brazilian government is currently concluding negotiations to define conditions for Bioenergy Working Group member countries to access these centers of excellence in bioenergy R&D.
