Solar and Wind Working Group to Review Proposed Projects

The Multilateral Solar and Wind Working Group hosted a series of meetings in which government representatives, industry experts, researchers and international organizations identified and discussed key activities to boost the global deployment of wind and solar energy technologies. Based on these discussions, the working group drafted proposals to develop an online wind and solar atlas, an online education and training platform for the wind and solar energy sectors, a long-term strategy on joint capacity building, capacity assessments in the wind and solar energy sectors and a pilot train-the-trainer program for wind and solar energy technologies.

At its next meeting, planned for late spring 2011, the working group will review the proposals and determine next steps.

The working group has also begun to establish a network of experts and potential implementing institutions worldwide through discussions with the International Energy Agency, the International Renewable Energy Agency, the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership, the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century and the United Nations Environmental Programme.

The Multilateral Solar and Wind Working Group aims to develop strategies to provide the necessary public infrastructure to accelerate the deployment of wind and solar energy technologies worldwide.
