The second Clean Energy Ministerial will feature a public forum entitled "The Role of Women in the Clean Energy Revolution." The event will address women’s contributions to the clean energy field at the professional and community levels, barriers to their contributions across societies and strategies to overcome those barriers.
Many of the female ministers attending the ministerial will address the forum, including Minister Lykke Friis of Denmark, Minister Dipuo Peters of South Africa and Minister Maud Olofsson of Sweden.
A panel comprising a diverse group of women from around the world who have distinguished themselves in clean energy or related disciplines—and men who have advanced women’s ability to do so—will discuss what universities, nongovernmental organizations, corporations and governments can do to prepare more women for leadership roles in the clean energy economy. The audience will include more than 100 women from local universities, businesses and civil society organizations within the United Arab Emirates, along with other local stakeholders. Around the world, women are underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the disciplines from which clean energy professionals are most often drawn.
The public forum is part of the Clean Energy Education & Empowerment (C3E) women’s initiative, launched at the first Clean Energy Ministerial in July 2010 with participation from eight governments and 30 distinguished women from the field of clean energy. The goal of C3E is to prepare, inspire and connect women to serve as innovators, role models and leaders in the clean energy field.
