The Electric Vehicles Initiative (EVI) held its fourth Advisory Group meeting in Barcelona, Spain on 30 November–1 December 2011 during the SmartCity Expo and World Congress—a conference of international stakeholders dedicated to sustainable urban growth. The Advisory Group, composed of representatives from EVI member governments, discussed the global progress of electric vehicle (EV) deployment and made preparations for the third Clean Energy Ministerial in April, where EVI will provide the results of its data collection and analysis to ministers.
Representatives from select EVI pilot cities and outside organizations attended the meeting to explore areas of joint cooperation on the best methods to prepare for EV deployment in urban areas. EVI also welcomed the Netherlands as its newest member, bringing the total number of member governments to fourteen.
EVI convened two panel sessions during the Expo with experts from the private and public sectors to discuss the implications of EV market introduction and the challenges and opportunities ahead.
The EVI Advisory Group will continue its work over the coming months and has proposed to meet again in May 2012.
