United Kingdom to Host Third Clean Energy Ministerial in 2012

7 April 2011

The United Kingdom will host the third Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM3) at Lancaster House in London on 25-26 April 2012. Ministers from 23 participating governments will gather to discuss and guide progress made by the 11 clean energy initiatives, explore ways to enhance collaboration, and interact with stakeholders from the private sector and expert communities to consider strategies to inform policies and drive technical progress in support of clean energy development and deployment.

Speaking at the second Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM2), Chris Huhne, UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, told his fellow ministers that he looks forward to continuing the discussion of smart public finance for clean energy, which will be an important theme for CEM3. Energy access will also be an important theme for CEM3 because the United Nations has declared 2012 'the Year of Sustainable Energy for All.' The United Kingdom has emphasized the importance of continuing stakeholder engagement in the run-up to CEM3, building on the successful roundtable dialogues held at CEM2.

India, in its capacity as host of the fourth Clean Energy Ministerial, will host a preparatory meeting for CEM3 for ministers’ deputies in February 2012.
