SEAD Announces Global Competition to Recognize the Most Energy-Efficient Televisions (9 January 2012)
The Super-Efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) initiative is a task within the International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation.
SEAD is supported by the Collaborative Labeling and Appliance Standards Program as operating agent and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for technical analysis. It has collaborative relationships with ENERGY STAR, the International Energy Agency "Efficient Electrical End-Use Equipment" (4E) Implementing Agreement, and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Expert Group on Energy Efficiency and Conservation.
SEAD is engaging the private sector in pursuing innovative approaches to promoting energy-efficient equipment and appliances. The initiative announced the first SEAD Global Efficiency Medal competition on 6 January 2012 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. This global competition aims to encourage the production and sale of more energy-efficient electronics and appliances. The SEAD Global Efficiency Medal is awarded to products that demonstrate the greatest energy efficiency, with the first competition focusing on flat-panel televisions. Television manufacturers from across the globe will compete against one another based on the energy efficiency of their products.
