Rapidly scaling up clean energy solutions remains one of the world’s core economic growth challenges. Meeting this challenge will require expanded public-private collaboration and innovation to help further identify the investment, technology, skills, and experience that are required to enable an effective transition to a lower carbon future.
The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) encourages private-sector participation to spur development and implementation of effective, sustainable policies and solutions to transition to a clean energy future. Building on the successful input of World Economic Forum (WEF) member companies to the first Clean Energy Ministerial, the CEM Secretariat asked WEF to convene public-private roundtables for the second Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM2), working in partnership with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
The moderated roundtable sessions at CEM2 brought energy ministers, government officials, business leaders, and experts from nongovernmental organizations together for a candid dialogue on the following four clean energy themes:
A report published by the WEF captures key recommendations that resulted from these discussions and next steps for advancing the public-private agenda on scaling up clean energy.
Future Clean Energy Ministerial meetings will include additional public-private roundtable dialogues and other avenues for public-private engagement. These activities will enable governments and businesses to continue building policies and initiatives that accelerate the transition to a clean energy future.
