The Asian Development Bank

1 July 2016

This report presents nine projects that cover a wide range of investments under Climate Investment Funds, including clean technology, renewable energy and climate resilience. The authors analyze the design elements of the projects with respect to gender equity. Based on their review of the nine projects, the authors recommend (1) increases in and expansions of projects that emphasize mitigation or adaptation and gender equity design elements, (2) investment in knowledge sharing by developing a “tip sheet” of mitigation and adaptation and gender equity design elements, (3) inclusion of design elements that benefit from women’s and girls’ capacity and (4) strengthening of gender expertise in implementing climate change projects and programs to ensure gender is mainstreamed and gender results are monitored, reported and evaluated.
