Sources:

International Energy Agency

Date:

1 January 2011

This working paper analyzes the potential for renewables to generate an increasing proportion of China’s electricity, with a focus on wind power utilization. Data on the status of the integration of renewables into China’s current energy supply are included, as well as assessments of China’s overall technical wind potential to identify the overall share of China’s power that could be generated from wind. The paper also identifies current and anticipated barriers, such as transmission distances from wind farms that may stand in the way of expanding wind power deployment.
