Tanzania is one of the pilot countries selected to benefit from the Scaling-Up Renewable Energy Programme in Low Income Countries, which aims to demonstrate the economic, social and environmental viability of a low-carbon development pathway by creating new economic opportunities and increasing energy access through the production and use of renewable energy. The objective of the SREP-Tanzania Investment Plan is to catalyse the large-scale development of renewable energy to transform the country’s energy sector from one that is increasingly dependent on fossil fuels to one that is more balanced and diversified, with a greater share of renewable energy sources.
