Workshop on the Future of Energy Skills
17 March 2026
This workshop will provide an opportunity to explore employment and skills trends in clean energy sectors. It will bring together policymakers, employers, trade unions, educational institutions, international organisations and researchers to discuss challenges to meet current and future skilled labour needs in sectors such as the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors. This includes which skills and occupations are most in demand, education and training pathways, and how to ensure accessible training including for young people and underrepresented groups. The workshop will also look at key topics such as reskilling and upskilling and the role of digital skills and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the energy workforce.
Invited experts will be asked to present their perspectives and examples on how they are addressing skilled labour shortages and increasing education and training capacity in their respective region and technology. These discussions will feed into the IEA’s upcoming publications on energy skills and employment.
This workshop is organised in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion, European Commission, as part of Clean Energy Ministerial Empowering People Initiative.
