Dr Ahmed Mohamed Mohina has over 30 years of experience in the Egyptian electricity and renewable energy sector. He is currently First Undersecretary for Strategic Planning and Performance Monitoring and International Cooperation. He has held senior positions such as Undersecretary for Authority Follow-up, General Manager for Technical Follow-up and General Manager for the Minister’s Technical Office. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian New and Renewable Energy Authority. He is a member of the Energy Committee of ESCWA. He also served as Secretary of the IEC National Committee of Egypt. He has participated in several national committees for the preparation of strategies, policies and legislation, such as the Egyptian Sustainable Development Strategy 2030, the Egyptian Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy for 2035, and the preparation of the Egyptian Electricity Law and the Incentives for Renewable Energy Investment Law. He has a wide range of responsibilities including reviewing the overall sector requirements and performance, power system expansion plans and required adjustments, investments for project implementation, coordination with international financial institutions, cooperation with other countries, etc. He represented Egypt in many international and regional conferences and chaired some energy meetings. Dr Ahmed Mohamed Mohina holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Energy Economics, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

About the CEM Regional and Global Energy Interconnection (RGEI) Initiative
The RGEI Initiative was launched at the 9th Clean Energy Ministerial in Copenhagen/Malmö in May 2018. The RGEI aims to

  • Build consensus on facilitating the energy transition through an increased share of renewable energy in energy consumption and increased grid interconnection
  • Encourage CEM member countries to engage in the RGEI process and seize opportunities for cooperation
  • Discuss enabling policy and regulatory frameworks for regional and global energy system integration..
