High-level dialogues at #CEM14

Press Release — Goa India, 21st July 2023

Goa, India – On the 21st of July, during the 14th Clean Energy Ministerial Meeting and 8th Mission Innovation Meeting private sector actors, governments and international experts will gather together to strengthen collaboration and better coordinate on four crucial topics for the clean energy future: sustainable cooling, industry decarbonisation, access to energy and One Sun, One World, One Grid. The CEM14 Indian host organised four high-level dialogues open to the general public and to the press.

About Sustainable Cooling – 14:30-15:45, Ballroom 1.

This high-level dialogue aims at enhancing public and private sector commitment to the innovation, investment, technology dissemination and policy deployment in order to promote sustainable cooling and to provide access to cooling solutions that are energy-efficient, affordable, and environmentally friendly, while fulfilling the cooling needs of the population.

The Co-Chairs will be Sultan Al Jaber, President of COP28, and Jitendra Singh, Director General, India, and the moderator will be Abhay Bakre, Director General of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. There will be high-level representatives from the government of Denmark. The knowledge partner for this event is United Nation Environment Programme. About Access to Energy: Accelerating Investments for Empowering Lives and Livelihoods – 14:30-15:45, Salao 1.

This session aims to inspire and challenge Ministers and the private sector to accelerate investments towards meeting the goals of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7. Furthermore, it will also highlight that investments in energy access can leverage other public andprivate funds towards empowering lives and livelihoods particularly the nexus between cleanenergy, agri-food and health sectors.

The Co-Chairs will be Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of Ministry of Power, India and Stefan Wenzel, State Secretary, Germany and the moderator will be Vivek Kumar Dewangan, Chairman & Managing Director of REC Limited, Government of India. About One Sun, One World, One Grid – 16:00-17:35, Ballroom 1.

This high-level dialogue aims at accelerating the engagement between potential countries by increasing political actions to ensure the effective deployment of the One Sun, One World, One Grid (OSOWOG) initiative. Furthermore, it intends to identify ways to increase the participation of the public and private sectors to promote research and development activities, including the conduction of technical feasibility tests.

The Co-Chairs will be Raj Kumar Singh, Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy, India and Grant Shapps, Secretary for State, United Kingdom and the moderator will be Ajay Mathur, Director General of the International Solar Alliance. About Industry Decarbonization – 16:00-17:35, Salao 1.

The aim of this high-level dialogue will be to identify strategies to augment supply and demand for low-carbon industrial products and to mobilize finance for industrial decarbonization. This session will focus on the role of international cooperation in driving decarbonization and discuss the various efforts to put heavy emitting industries on track towards net zero goals. Furthermore, it will also address the need to mobilize financing for new low-emissions industrial demonstration projects and retrofits of existing facilities and call on the global community to urgently unlock the funding and financing required to stimulate these projects especially in emerging economies and developing countries.

The Chair will be Vijay Kumar Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog, India and the moderator will be Ravneet Mann, Vice President of Invest India. There will be high-level representatives from the Governments of Germany and Canada. The knowledge partner for this event is United Nations Industrial Development Organization. About CEM14:

The 14th Clean Energy Ministerial and 8th Mission Innovation meeting (CEM14/MI-8) is scheduled to take place in Goa, India between 19th to 22nd of July, 2023. Scheduled on the margins of the G20 Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting (ETMM), this year’s Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) and Mission Innovation (MI) meetings will bring together, governments, international organizations, private sector, academia, innovators, civil society, and early career researchers and policymakers over a four-day program featuring high-level ministerial dialogues, global initiative launches, award announcements, minister-CEO roundtables, and a wide array of side-events cutting across diverse themes of clean energy transition. CEM14/MI8 will also feature a public facing technology showcase demonstrating cutting edge advances in clean energy from India and around the world.
