Fueling Lives: Clean Cooking for All

Goal

Catalyze global investment to increase access to clean cooking fuels and infrastructure, especially LPG, to empower local communities through access to modern energy solutions.
Overview
Today, 2.1 billion people lack access to clean cooking technologies and instead rely on wood, charcoal, and fuels from agricultural waste and animal dung to cook their meals. These fuels release harmful air pollution (at orders of magnitude higher than any health-based standards) that results in millions of premature deaths annually, disproportionately affecting women and children. The World Bank estimates the annual cost of inaction at $2.4 trillion.
The Fueling Lives: Clean Cooking for All initiative was launched at CEM16/MI-10 in Busan, South Korea to accelerate deployment of clean cooking fuels and its related infrastructure, expanding global energy access.
Fueling Lives: Clean Cooking for All centers its work around four key objectives:
- Provide research, knowledge exchange, and technical assistance to advance clean fuels deployment in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs).
- Collaborate with select partners on research, information exchange, and publication activities.
- Convene governments, private sector, and other key stakeholders for high-level dialogues to raise ambition and advance solutions to clean cooking access.
- Elevate urgency of clean cooking financing gap and advocate for critical investments to achieve clean cooking universal access.
Activities
Activities under the initiative were determined through an exhaustive, member-driven process. The 2026 Workplan is aligned with the four key objectives of the initiative.
Actions include:
- Country to country knowledge exchange
- Targeted technical assistance to support national clean cooking strategies and programs
- Promoting best practices and elevating market enablers for deployment of clean cooking fuels
- Industry and private sector engagement to identify investment opportunities support
