Carlos Roberto Ortiz Gomez, Director General of Research, Technological Development and Training of Human Resources, Ministry of Energy

Carlos is responsible for the research agenda and training of human resources of the Energy Sector in Mexico. Prior to joining the Department of Energy, Carlos worked as a consultant in the development of energy strategy and urban development Cornfields Arroyo Seco in Los Angeles California, Hunters Point in San Francisco CA and several cogeneration projects in Mexico and the United States.

Since 2009 Carlos has been involved with the Funds for Research and Technological Development of the Mexican Energy Sector giving consultancy agencies like Conacyt, Secretary of Energy, and collaborating with companies like Alliance Fiidem and Comimsa. In 2013 Carlos was appointed Director General of Information and Energy Studies SENER. In 2015 Carlos was appointed Director General of Research, Technological Development and Training of Human Resources, Ministry of Energy, a position he currently holds.

Carlos is a Mechanical Engineer from the University of South Florida, and has studied Sustainability from the Universidad Iberoamericana.

Dr. Edgar Santoyo-Castelazo, Director of Technological Innovation, Ministry of Energy

Edgar is a chemical engineer from the University of Morelos State in Mexico. He completed his PhD at the University of Manchester in UK (2007-2011), where he also worked as a research associate and a lecturer (2011-2013) on the themes related to Sustainable Chemical Engineering, Life cycle Assessment and Sustainable Assessment of Energy Systems.

His main responsibilities consider the design, planning, implementation and monitoring of the Energy Sectorial Funds CONACYT-SENER, to promote and enhance collaboration among stakeholders for applied research, innovation, technological development and specialized training.

Among the main projects under his supervision, and where he has an active participation, include: the Mexican Energy Innovation Centers (CEMIE), the development of National Road Maps for Clean Energy, the strengthening of the National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energy (INEEL), and the promotion of international cooperation. Dr. Santoyo is a member of the National Researchers System of Mexico and he teaches a postgraduate course on “Sustainable Development in Industry: and introduction to life cycle assessment and its applications” at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Nelson Mojarro, Representative in Europe of the Energy Sustainability Fund and the Hydrocarbons Fund of the Ministry of Energy

Nelson Mojarro is the Representative in Europe of the Energy Sustainability Fund and the Hydrocarbons Fund of the Ministry of Energy and CONACYT of Mexico. His work focuses on establishing and strengthening links and promoting cooperation between European institutions and Mexico on research, innovation and energy topics. In 2015, he led the initiative for the first ever Joint Call and largest bilateral cooperation of Mexico on Energy R&D, a cooperation between the European Commission and Mexico under Horizon 2020 and the Energy Sustainability Fund, an agreement worth €20 million euros. In addition, he led the activities for the cooperation between Mexico and the UK on Energy R&D, an agreement with Innovate UK worth £5 million. He is Mexico’s representative for Mission Innovation (MI) and co-lead of the Business and Investor Engagement Sub-Group of MI, an initiative launched at COP21 together with the Breakthrough Energy Coalition, led by Bill Gates.

Mr. Mojarro is a former OIES Saudi Aramco Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, of the University of Oxford. He did his doctorate studies in SPRU, University of Sussex and holds an MA in Industry and Innovation Analysis from this institution.

Dr. Hermann Tribukait, Task Force Leader, Mexico’s Mission Innovation Team

Dr. Hermann Tribukait is an economist and energy specialist with 20 years of experience in consulting, economic research, and investment banking. He is the Ambassador to North America of Mexico’s Energy R&D Funds and the Task Force Leader of Mexico’s Mission Innovation team, specialized in energy innovation and technology development projects. His projects include a $10 million dollar initiative to finance energy efficiency technology projects launched by the Ministry of Energy of Mexico and CONACYT, and the Advanced Materials Innovation Challenge of MI that aims to accelerate the discovery of high-performance materials by 10x.

Dr. Tribukait has provided consulting and advisory services for Fortune 500 companies and multinational corporations in various industries, including energy, natural resources, and technology. He has conducted academic presentations and seminars at Harvard Business School, Harvard Law School, Bocconi School of Management, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, and the European Central Bank, among others, and was a panelist at the California Climate Change Symposium 2015. In 2016, he was invited to give testimony to the California Senate on California-Mexico Cooperation, and as a delegate to the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP 22) and the Mission Innovation ministerial meeting in Marrakech, Morocco. He was a founding analyst of the first Mexican investment bank, Protego.

Dr. Tribukait earned a BA in Economics from ITAM (Mexico) with highest honors, and a Masters and Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University. He is fluent in English, German, and Spanish.

Araceli Cordero Vilchis, Director of Talent, Undersecretary for Energy Planning and Transition, Ministry of Energy

Since 2014 is Director of Talent in the Undersecretary for Energy Planning and Transition at the Mexican Ministry of Energy. She was part of the construction team of the Strategic Program for Human Capital Training in Energy. It is responsible for the coordination of the Sustainable Energy Technologies Development Project, PRODETES, a project that drives the PRODETES Award that promotes the development of clean energy technologies businesses through the granting of economic incentives.
