India’s Super-Efficient Equipment Program: SEEP

3 December 2013

The Clean Energy Solutions Center, in partnership with Super-Efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD), hosted this training webinar focused on India’s proposed Super-Efficient Equipment Program (SEEP). Aditya Chunekar of the Prayas Energy Group spoke on conceptualizing, designing and implementing national-level energy efficiency programs like SEEP, a proposed voluntary program in India aimed at achieving market transformation to super-efficient ceiling fans by providing financial incentives to manufacturers. Participants discussed:

  • Rationale, features and benefits of the program as well as its design and current status
  • Experience in developing the program in India and lessons learned
  • A template for developing programs like SEEP in different countries, particularly, developing countries with political and institutional mechanisms similar to that of India
  • Guiding principles for key steps involved in development, such as conducting preliminary analysis, securing funding, setting technical specifications, standard testing protocols and others
