Effective Policy Design for Promoting Investment in Advanced Alternative Fuels – Whitepaper

This study seeks to understand why the past decade of alternative fuel policies has not led to commercialization of advanced alternative fuels, and how we can apply lessons learned to developing proposals for fuel policy over the coming decade. The authors first discuss key economic barriers that impede the commercialization of advanced alternative fuels. They then discuss existing and past policies in the EU and United States that have promoted advanced alternative fuels, and they review and assess them for their effectiveness in improving the economic viability of advanced alternative fuels projects and leading to actual advanced alternative fuels production.
