Fossil Fuel Subsidies

Fossil fuels can be subsidized at various points in the development cycle, including in mining, refinement, transport, and electricity generation. In those markets where fossil fuel prices are artificially lowered through low-cost government loans, tax diversions, and other means, it may be difficult to incentivize energy efficiency or renewable energy given longer payback periods.
